Racing With Jesus – Charlotte
As the team headed into race day, hopes were high and everyone was optimistic that Morgan and the #89 Racing With Jesus Charger would continue to build upon the success of the previous weeks.
Right after turning in a qualifying effort good enough for 27th starting position, the team noticed that the car was leaking coolant. A radiator hose had burst during the qualifying run.
Working to repair the damaged hose, the team was penalized under NASCAR rules and forced now to start at the back of the pack.
Just 27 laps into the race, the left rear tire blew out, causing the car to spin. One of the Race With Faith forum members was in the stands and commented on the outstanding job done by Morgan to keep the car from crashing into the wall.

In the pits, the team noticed that the tire casing had damaged the brake system when it exploded. Pulling into the garage area, the team managed to replace the damaged brake line and torn brake fitting.
Morgan re-entered the race, now some 42 laps down from the leaders.
The quick repairs had not allowed the team an opportunity to balance the brake system prior to re-entering the race. Despite this obvious handicap, Morgan persisted in racing.
The problem finally worsened and Morgan was forced to park the car about 50 laps short of the finish, taking 37th place for the night.
Next week, the team heads for Dover and the “Monster Mile.” On his website, Morgan was highly complimentary of the car (this is the one donated by Kevin Harvick). The team will be using one of the other cars from its stable for the Dover race.
This week’s effort was another one in which the team fought back against adversity and overwhelming odds to bring the message of Jesus Christ to NASCAR fans and drivers.
Although disappointed with this week’s results, Morgan and the team remain both optimistic and determined to continue their ministry.
They continue to inspire as they live out the scripture that adorns their website -
- 2 Corinthians 5:7
For we walk by faith, not by sight
